Sabine Says

Sabine to Sarah this afternoon:

"Sarah, you should come pass gas in my face."

Um, gross. And WHY?

Sabine Says

Sabine likes to rhyme. She rhymes all day. Out loud.

Sabine- "Mom, I know what rhymes with door."

Me- "Oh yeah?"

Sabine- Yeah, whore."

Me- "Nice."

My Gold Digger

Sabine picks her nose. I'd call it a hobby. She thinks it's funny when I ask her if she's digging for gold. Sometimes I think she's going to lose her finger up there. I was fine when she was just a nose picker. Now she's a picker AND an eater. That is just gross. Anyway, the other day I was clipping my kids fingernails (I do a marathon session- that is 30 fingernails and 30 toenails.) and it was Sabine's turn. I was about halfway through with her when she looked down at her recently cut "picking" fingernail. She said "Oh no! Now I can't pick my boogies and eat them!" She wasn't just trying to be silly, either. This was said in all seriousness. Why, WHY, do kids have to pick their nose and eat it?

Sarah, thank goodness, hasn't even found that hole yet. Or if she has, she doesn't care to explore up there. It's only a matter of time, I'm sure.

A Gassy Tail

All you babies with a gassy derriere,
throw your bum up in the air like you just don't care!
My kid is gassy. It makes her cry and scream and lose sleep. It makes me sad and frantic because I want it to stop. Especially in the middle of the night. We've tried everything. Mylicon, AKA Myliwrong. Doesn't work. Ride in the car at 3 AM with Daddy, nope. Swing, wrong again. Being held in every position that ever existed, uh, no. Tummy rubs work occasionally. But what does work is some good tummy time. If Maisy is really howling, I put her on her tummy and within 30 seconds she calms down. Plus, how cute is a little baby bum sticking up into the air?
Gas, gas go away.
Come again some other day.
Or just stay away, actually.

Moving Day

Sabine and Sarah LOVE playing with their dollhouse. They will do it for hours. A few weeks ago as I blogged, they played a serious game of dollhouse. When Sabine opened the bedroom door (I make them shut it so that I have a moment of sanity) and rolled out the mini-van looking like this I had to ask.

So I said "Oh my, what's going on?" And Sabine told me that her dollhouse family was "moving". I wanted to know where they were moving and she told me "the hallway". I love how the Mom doll is hanging out the window witht the two babies piled on top of her. I let the family move for the night and when Sabine was sound asleep, I moved them back.

SMILE!

It took 20 minutes to coax a smile out of her that we could snap a picture of. She smiles a lot, it's just hard to capture it. Maisy is almost 8 weeks old now. My how time flies!
She's looking at me and Matthew is getting the shot. I act like such a fool to get her to smile, I embarrass myself.

1st Day of School

Today was the first day of school. Sabine's 2nd year and Sarah's 1st year. They were both really excited, as was I. Last night I was in the kitchen putzing around while the girls ate some dinner and I all of a sudden got anxious/excited/sad about them starting school. So I said "Ah, I'm so excited for you guys to start school tomorrow!" And Sabine said back to me- "Mom, your just excited to get Sarah out of the house." And she said it with a sideways glance and a voice that let me know she knew the real reason for my excitement. I stood corrected. And she was right, actually. I was excited to get Sarah out of the house (she needs the social interaction) but now I'm just sad. It's quiet around here. I'm not bored but I feel empty. I feel like I'm missing an arm or something. I held back all the crying I felt like doing this morning because once I start I don't stop. I emptied the dishwasher this morning without being interrupted to cut up an apple or pour some milk or wipe a bum. It was nice. But I can't wait to go get them and hear about their first day back. It's going to be a good year!

Sabine says...

The other day I was changing Maisy's 10th diaper of the day when I said in a VERY dramatic and lamenting tone, "Oh my goodness, how many diapers am I going to change in this lifetime!?" Sabine, without missing a beat answered my rhetorical question-

"Well, probably like 100,000. But maybe just 16."

Thankyou Sabine!

4 Weeks Old

Maisy is 4 weeks old today. Weird, I know. I feel like I just brought her home yesterday. It's so fun having her here even if she exhausts me. Speaking of which, Maisy has kindly come up with her own daily schedule. When I suggested different timings for sleeping and eating she just passed gas or something and that was the end of that conversation. She likes things the way they are. I mean who wouldn't love waking up 2 or 3 times in the middle of the night to eat? I myself would choose ice cream or chocolate. Maisy chooses milk.

Maisy's Daily Schedule:

All day and all night- Eatsleeppoopeatsleeppoopeatsleeppoopeatsleeppoopeatsleeppoopeatsleeppoop and then poop some more just for good measure.

Occasionally:

Cry just enough to shake things up in the house. Try to cry at least once a day for no particular reason.

And that's about it. She is a really happy and content baby. My easiest, maybe. Should I go knock on some wood? She brings us so much joy and happiness. Hopefully the next 4 weeks are just as good!

Start 'em Young I Say

For Sabine's birthday, I took her to get her toesies done with her cute little friend Bea. It was a surprise so Sabine had no idea where we were headed. This was in lieu of a friend party which had I attempted at this point in my life, would have landed me on an extended vacation in a nice rubber padded room. This was fun and easy. We did ice cream also, to make it more birthdayish. As a side note- When we got to the pedicure shop, Sabine wanted to leave. She didn't want her toes done and asked me why she had to do this. In the end she did it because Bea was excited about it.

On our way to the shop-Their feet barely hit the water-

Pose those toes-Sabine wanted to pose in the same bushes on the way back to the car-

School Orientation

Both girls are going to pre-school this year and last week we went to orientation. On the way to the class Sarah was really excited. She asked me if this was her new school and when I answered "yes" she took off running and yelling-

"Wahoooo, Yayyy, dis my new schoo! I do essited!!" This is a picture of her running and I intentionally left the "L" off of "school" in her sentence because that's how she says it.

She can't wait to go with Sabine. She's most excited about the outside play structure. I'm most excited about the 4 hours twice a week I'll get alone with Maisy. Sarah will be getting 3 years of pre-school. I hope she enjoys it!

Well Isn't That Just Peachy!

A few nights ago, Sabine was sitting at the table eating her dinner. It was a nice little dinner but she wanted something more. This is the conversation that ensued-

Sab- "Mom, can I have some peaches?"
Me- "We don't have any peaches. Sorry."
Sab- "Damn."
Me- "What?"
Sab- "Damn."
Me- "Damn?"
Sab- "Yeah. Damn. We don't have any peaches."

My mouth fell open, then I tried to stifle my laugh, which made Sabine ask me why I'm crying, and then I calmly explained what was wrong and that she shouldn't say that word.

I'll give you one guess as to who it is that she learned that word from. I'll give you a hint- In the past 2 days whenever HE has wanted to say a naughty word, he has spelled it out instead. At least HE'S trying.

Sincere Prayer

Today I was kicking my kid's butts in Candyland. I got an awesome card on my very first pick and pretty much got to the end of the game off of that card. We all took another turn and on my turn I got a double purple and was one play away from winning. Fastest game in history and I was glad because sometimes these games draaaaaaaag. Upon seeing that things were quickly ending, Sabine jumped into action with a heartfelt prayer to Heavenly Father. She actually said to me "Oh no! I better say a prayer dat you don't win."

"Dear Heavenly Fodder,

Please, please help dat my mommy doesn't win. Because I fink I win all sorts of times and please just help dat my mommy loses this game."

As she ended her prayer I was laughing because she was doing this in all seriousness. I made a commotion and distracted the girls from finishing the game because I didn't want to win after she so lovingly prayed on my behalf to lose. I couldn't at that moment see what her reaction would be if I did win and Heavenly Father didn't answer her prayer. When she was done I thought that was blog worthy. Then I made her pose for a pic while she prayed. She repeated the same prayer and the look on her face is while she pleads for me to "not win."

My OB (original baby) is 4!!!

4!!!

Sabine is 4. When I say or type those words it hurts my chest and I get a huge lump in my throat. I miss baby Sabine so badly sometimes. I sometimes want to do those years over now that I actually know how to be a good Mom. Back then I stumbled through mommyhood and Sabine was my guinea pig. Which is why I think she is fiercely independent and strong. Sabine is so many things but above all she is an amazing daughter and a very attentive big sister. She is so aware of Sarah and Maisy and what it is that they need. I have a hard time putting in to words what I feel about this girl. She's so special to me and everyday I remember what a huge blessing she is in my life.

We had a family party for her at the pool. She was happy to have her Boston cousins (Gunther and Lindsey) there, as well as Nama, Papa, Auntie Sue Sue and Auntie Liz. She got a new bike as her big present. She has been going on rides with Matthew at night. Except for the last 2 nights she has not been allowed to use her bike because of her naughty nature. That bike is HUGE bribery for me. It's the first thing to get taken away when she acts up.

Sabine is starting her 2nd year of pre-school in September with Sarah. Next year she goes to Kindergarten. Thinking about that just depresses me. Good thing I have a year to prepare.
Dad made Sabine pancakes (her fave) in the shape of a 4:

Such a good big sister:Pool party:On her new bike:It dawns on me today (the 1st anniversary of my Dad's death) just how big and important it is that she has Papa in her life. Helping her swim:See, Aunt Sue Sue was there. And I'll take this picture down as soon as she comments on my post:

My Maisy May

Maisy May was born on July 30th at 11:53 AM. She weighed 7 lbs. 1 oz. (barely) and measured in at 19 1/2 inches. And she is CUTE!!! I'm very much in love with her and spend lots of time inhaling the smells from her neck. It's like sugar in there and she doesn't mind my sniffing unless she's hungry and then she mistakes my face for food. The girls just love her and help me out a lot during the day. Maisy is so cute I don't mind all of the sleep I'm missing because of her, but I can't wait til she sleeps through the night. I forgot how hard it is to be someone's food supply. And I'm in hot demand for that kid, let me tell you. Well, without further ado, my baby in pictures.
I love this pic because she is literally 2 minutes old and straight from Heaven:

MAD:And some more:
